Why should we concern ourselves with Morality?

First let me say this is NOT a blog posting about sexual morality, but about morality as a whole.

Over the past 3-4 years we have seen episode after episode of corruption and rampant greed leading to investors losing BILLIONS of dollars and investor confidence being drastically eroded. I am speaking of ENRON, Worldcom, Madoff, sub-prime mortages just to name a few.

We, as a nation and within the world have forgotten that it takes PEOPLE to make an economy. If the PEOPLE are constantly stolen from, lied to, and generally treated as if they have no right to expect a return on their investment, to expect TRUTH in their dealings with one another it only leads to more and more erosion of world wide economies.

So WHERE is the morality we are all supposedly taught at our parent's knee?

Thou shalt not steal
Thou shalt not bear false witness
Thou shalt not covet

These have been the tenants we have been taught for millenia. Have we learned nothing since they were written?

It is not just about doing the 'right' thing. To follow a morale code makes us human beings and it allows us to advance as the human race, perhaps eventually attaining the heights we are truly capable of.
