Where have all the children gone?

So on my continuing rant about decreased birthrates....over the past few weeks I have seen:

  • an article in the newspaper talking about how in a particular U.S. neighbourhood there have never been so few children in remembered history

  • that overall there has finally been an admission that at this point in history is the lowest number of children overall in the U.S.

  • and today an article online on BBC that females of Asian descent feel so pressured to produce male offspring that they are engaging in female foeticide.

So never mind that with cultural pressures to have fewer and fewer children in western and/or westernized cultures, which includes Roman Catholics who are not supposed to avail themselves to The Pill, that we are also still committing female foeticide.

China learned the hard way, kill female fetuses and whoops! The next generation is not just 1/2 the prior, it is say, 1/3 the prior because you have left too many males alive who cannot actually gestate/carry a child and changing the culture from 1 child/couple to cover the rapid decline is harder to reverse than the initial change.

Let's not forget that fewer children have the added benefit of allowing the parents more money both for themselves and also to lavish on their children. It allows the parents to be able to give their fewer children more objects than their own generation. And it is realized too late that it is not things that make up a family but the positive inter-relationships of the family.

It is most interesting that the religious dedication of the Roman Catholics is no longer holding up when it comesto The Pill. There is no other explanation for such a precipitous drop in children amongst Quebecers or in Mexico in less than one generation.

Now, what is more interesting is that governments are beginning to realize the risks and the fast approaching impacts to the economy, countries etc but what is the solution?
